Souper 2.0

A 5+5 (up to 10 oscillator) "super-saw" wave + PWM + Triangle oscillator for your KORG Minilogue XD / Prologue / NTS1 synthesizers

As always, these are to be used at your own risk!

A quick word...

I've been having a ton of fun creating these plugins. If you like stuff like this and my other work, by all means feel free to contribute whatever you can to help support this!

Ensure you have the KORG minilogue/prologue sound librarian installed. Now, before you do anything else, perform a full and complete backup of your synthesizer and save this to disk before continuing. See the sound librarian manual for instructions on how to do this if required. Next, select the USER OSCILLATORS tab on the librarian, and drag and drop the requisite file to an available slot in the librarian :

  • for minilogue xd users, please use souper2.mnlgxdunit
  • for prologue users, please use souper2.prlgunit.
  • NTS1 users may use either file.

Souper 2.0 expands on Souper, with new waveforms, PWM, and super-smooth glide functionality added.

Controls:

  • Shape - Sets the overall amount of detune. Setting this to 0 sets the waveforms to be perfectly in tune - but their phases will be 'frozen'. This can result in wave-table type sounds.
  • Shift+Shape - Sets the level of a second set of detuned waveforms. The pitch of this second set by default is +1 octave.

Parameters:

Second Note: Sets the pitch of the second note that plays when shift+shape is turned up. Pitches are:

  • 1 : Octave up (default)
  • 2: 5'th
  • 3: 4'th
  • 4: Root (uses slightly different detuning from the main set)
  • 5: 5'th down
  • 6: 4'th down
  • 7: 1 Octave Low
  • 8: 1 Octave low 4'th
  • 9: 2 Octaves Low

New parameters for 2.0:

Waveform:

  • 1: Saw - This will generate 5 sawtooth waveforms (+5 more when shift+shape is set to full for the second set of waveforms).
  • 2: Pulse - This will generate 3 PWM waveforms (+ 3 more when shift+shape is set to full for the second set of waveforms). Pulse width, and PWM rate / amount are also adjustable.
  • 3: Triangle - This will generate 3 Triangle waveforms (+ 3 more when shift+shape is set to full for the second set of waveforms).

Glide Rate

This sets the amount of super-smooth (updated at 3khz) 'exponential' style glide to apply. This is especially useful in mono or unison modes! (note - the synth technically already provides a portamento function, however this glide is super-smooth and step-free, plus this glide can be applied with the VCOs having none for even more sound possibilities!)

PulseWidth

Applies to the Pulse waveform, sets the overall pulse width. Valid range is 0-50% - to avoid having the pulse wave do 'nothing' by default, this value represents:

  • 0% : Full square waveform
  • 25% : "25%" pulse sound
  • 100% : Full "off" (no pulse)

With a little detuing, and the pulse set to 17% and no PWM applied, this reminds me of old "FM" style square waves...

PWM Rate

Applies to pulse waveform only. Sets the rate for the PWM from 0Hz to 8Hz. You will need to apply some PWM amount (next parameter) to hear any effect.

PWM Amount

Applies to pulse waveform only. Sets the amount of PWM to apply (internal triangle LFO)
